Field-tested. Teacher-approved. Standards-aligned.

High quality storybook-based curriculum on biological evolution for elementary school teachers...and it's FREE!

Mission

The Evolving Minds Project (EMP) seeks to promote children’s early scientific understanding by developing high-quality, field-tested curriculum materials and sharing them for free with elementary school teachers and their students.

Evolving Minds Curriculum

The Evolving Minds Project curriculum is a cohesive sequence of 12 lessons on biological evolution. It combines storybooks, animations, hands-on investigations, and group activities to help elementary school students build foundational understandings of big ideas, preparing them for lifelong success in science.

The curriculum is fully aligned with NGSS standards. It has been designed by child development and curriculum experts, life scientists, and classroom teachers, and extensively field-tested in third grade classrooms. It’s an easy-to-use, scientifically accurate curriculum you can trust.

Teachers love it. Kids love it. And it’s free!

Teaching is hard work. Teaching science can be especially anxiety-provoking. Our goal is to make teaching natural selection easy, and learning about it intriguing and enduring ... and fun!

The EMP curriculum – collaboratively developed  by elementary classroom teachers, science learning experts, and curriculum developers at TERC – provides everything teachers need to engage their students in delightful, scientifically accurate explorations of biological evolution.

Give it a try. Tell us what you think. Together, let’s bring science to life!
